Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

I guess I'm important since I got a copy of this in the mail. Now I have to read and work through it and comment... It represents a lot of work and a step forward, even if I think there is still room for improvement.

Thank you!.

For more information, check out the DC Comprehensive Plan master website where all sections of the plan are available for viewing-printing.

I will take this opportunity to argue that "Urban Design" should be the #1 listed element, then Land Use, and then Transportation. And only then Economic Development.
