Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Congressional Cemetary

Has a lot of history and fabulous views. I lived in the city for more than 10 years before I visited it. The Washington Post website has a web special piece (not in the printed paper), about it, "Congressional Cemetery's Slow Resurrection: Long-Neglected Graveyard Prepares for 200th Year as Resting Place for D.C. Luminaries."

The preservation group, Historic Congressional Cemetary, has been particularly effective in righting the previous neglect.
