Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Georgia Avenue "rapider" bus launches 1/22/2007

Rapid Bus Service Plan for the Georgia Ave. Corridor
According to Catondra Noye, a DDOT project manager in the Mass Transit Administration unit of the department, the limited stop/express bus service on Georgia Avenue will be launched January 22, 2007.

The painting scheme for the buses looks better in this sign board than what was shown to us (another example of government marketing with less than the required amount of verve).

According to materials provided at the conference, average weekday ridership in October for the 70/71 bus was 17,216, the second highest number of all the city's bus routes. The intent is not to reduce the service of this line, but to provide the rapid service, branded "Metro Extra" (although not for extra cost), in addition to the standard service during peak travel periods (morning and evening rush).
