Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Bicycle boulevards in Berkeley, California

DC1974 writes:

Particularly nice is the signage and wayfinding system. The boulevards function as feeder streets for bicycles. They've moved into the second phase of actually making the street lights change and additional benefits for bicycle traffic flow. The first ones were just going in when I lived in Berkeley in the summer of 2001.

I agree, the signage is great.
