Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

More goodies from Streetsblog

Streetsblog, the NYC-based pro "complete streets" blog should be must reading for placemaking-oriented citizens/planners.

There are a couple of other good entries recently, including a mention of a paper by University of Washington planner Alyse Nelson who spent much of last year in Copenhagen learning how that city has transformed itself into a sustainable transport mecca.
NYC bicycle shelter
Also an entry on how NYC intends to install bicycle shelters based on bus shelters. See "R-E-S-P-E-C-T: DOT to Install Sleek New Bike Parking Shelters."
