Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

World class cities contribute to the world through their leadership and willingness to be creative and take risks

From Eric Britton on the NewMobilityCafe e-list:

Yesterday we had a meeting at Paris City Hall to look at the state of the art but above all the future prospects for carsharing in Paris – and beyond that more generally in France.

I will shortly have a transcript of the discussions, which were very well attended (more than a hundred of us French from all over France and even the odd English and Dutchman). If you would like to see a copy let me know and I will pass it on.

And now the news from our sponsor:

· The plan is to have two thousand carshare vehicles on the street within the next two years.
· That of course is just propaganda isn’t it?
· Just like the announcement a bit back that they would have 20,000 free bikes on the street by the end of the year.
· How absurd!

You have to keep your eye on those French.
