Meeting topic: Proposed cuts in Ride-On Service
On December 21, Montgomery County announced a plan to cut Ride-On bus service at a time when the bus system has just been awarded millions of dollars in new state aid. $580,000 in service will be cut, including rush hour, mid-day and evening service, and weekends. In addition, the county's program of free rides in the afternoon for middle school and high school students will be ended.
Just one month ago, Montgomery County members of the General Assembly won a pledge from Gov. Martin O'Malley to provide additional aid for Ride-On from Maryland's Transportation Trust Fund. Tax increases were approved on the basis that some of the new revenues would go to help transit riders.
Montgomery County should keep faith with the taxpayers and use the new state aid to maintain and expand Ride-On service.
Please take action - whether or not you will be able to attend the meeting - send emails to County Executive Leggett and the County Council.
