Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

National Mall planning meetings next week

Via Washcycle:

The National Mall Plan is at the alternatives phase and the NPS is seeking additional public comment. All planning newsletters, including the alternatives newsletter, can be found online. Comments should be submitted on-line at the website and it is desirable for comments to be received by January 15, 2008.

Public meetings will also be held in Washington, D.C. on January 8, 9 and 12, 2008. Copies of all newsletters will be available at those meetings. The NPS seeks public comment before developing a preferred alternative, completing analysis and preparing a Draft National Mall Plan / Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The alternatives newsletter contains concepts that can be combined in many different ways. The DEIS is expected to be published by summer of 2008. At that time there will be two months for public review and comment. The NPS plans on holding meetings in several locations around the country. Locations and dates will be determined.
