Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Top Planning Issues of 2007

from Planetizen:

1. Congestion Pricing and Road Tolling
2. Light Rail/Streetcar Surge
3. Drought Planning
4. Cities Taking Lead on Environment
5. Crumbling Infrastructure
6. Bikeability
7. Fall of Citywide Wi-Fi
8. Subprime Meltdown Fallout
---------------

I guess I would add another, the continued failure of the federal government to consider energy policy in concert with foreign policy and local development policies.
