Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Missed connections

You can't connect unless you're in a place with other people. And maybe people have stopped wearing hats so much (a big issue for Will) because they aren't walking out and about all the time, but are now in environmentally controlled spaces (cars). And you can't have missed connections ads in the City Paper unless you're out and about in the world around you, in public places, public halls, etc.

The Overhead Wire calls our attention to this streetcar-based ad for Levi Dockers.
