Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Heurich Old Georgetown beer ad, Washington Times Herald, August 1950

In the house we're moving to, about 1/2 of a Washington Times Herald from August 1950 was found in the somewhat finished attic. This ad was on one of the pages.

I remember Heurich's Old Georgetown, just barely. My dad (1921-2015) mentioned it when I told him about a story in Bob Wolff's "It's Not Who Won Or Lost the Gane, It's How You Sold the Beer". Bob was the first TV broadcaster for the Washington Nationals / Senators, by the way. Dad said, "Heurich's was good beer until old Mr. Heurich died. Then it went down, so far we called Old Georgetown 'Old Riverbottom' because it tasted like the bottom of the Potomac."
