Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Making WMATA subway stations intermodal

Flickr photo by Let Ideas Compete of a Bike Tire Pump Station in Stockholm. S/he writes:

Some of the bicycle parking areas at subway and pendeltåg stattions have tire pump stations.

To start, it doesn't have to be that complicated. How about having a simple air pump available in stationmaster kiosks at each subway station?

Another idea I am putting out there is how about having bikestations at some subway stations, where they can be reasonably accommodated. A Bikestation is being constructed at Union Station (see Union Station Bike Station), but through the initiative of DC's DDOT, not WMATA, not Union Station management.

I don't know what kind of accommodations for bicyclists (if any) will be constructed at the Silver Spring Intermodal Transit Center.
