Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Boulder CarShare (nonprofit vs. for-profit initiatives)

Boulder CarShare

One of the complaints about for profit carsharing and bicycle sharing initiatives is commodification of the public space, etc. OTOH, for profit entitities have access to capital and can better roll out larger initiatives.

There are a number of nonprofit carsharing initiatives across the country, listed at the CarSharing.net website.

Rachel sends us a link to this story on MyTown Colorado, " Boulder woman trades car for bike, just in time for Earth Day," about a woman who donated her car to Boulder CarShare, and in return received a bicycle.
