Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Baltimore Red Line public meetings

(I apologize for the late notice. This ended up in my bulk email box)

From Jaime Kendrick, City of Baltimore:

Now is the time for action on the Mayor’s Red Line Community Compact.

Last month, at the
Mayor’s Red Line Summit, we came away with some very good ideas for the Community Compact – a document that we can use to define the success of the Red Line project with regard to opportunities for additional investment in neighborhoods, a healthy and attractive environment, minimal disruption during construction and economic empowerment for communities along the line.

The next step in drafting the Community Compact is to meet as working groups that can have more time to discuss ideas and craft specific language that we can agree on. These Working Groups will be led by a member of the Mayor's Cabinet along with private or non-profit partners and will provide you with further opportunity for comment. Each group is scheduled to meet twice. Meetings are scheduled as listed below.

We look forward to seeing you at one or more of these Working Group meetings.
