Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Montgomery County wants it both ways...

According to today's Examiner, in "Montgomery officials say state transit cuts favor Baltimore," the County officials are complaining that recent cuts in transportation projects privilege Baltimore over Montgomery County.

THEN WHY DIDN'T THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY COUNCIL VOTE AGAINST THE INTER COUNTY CONNECTOR WHEN THEY HAD THE CHANCE? The Prince George's County Council did pass a vote against this toll road freeway. Had MoCo joined them, maybe it would have been dropped?

And then there would be plenty of money for transit projects in MontCo. Instead, money for the ICC isn't being touched, while other projects--transit and other highway projects--are being cut back.
