Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Uncle Sam wants you to die (maybe)

Die, die, die!

The Washington Post reports, in "Gun Bill Could Strip D.C. Of Control: Congress Weighs Repealing Ban On Semiautomatics," that some zealots in Congress think that DC's banning on semiautomatic guns is an unreasonable restriction of the right to bear arms. This is a city that still has a high murder rate, although nothing like 18 years ago (which is still why it's hard for me to take seriously some of people's complaints about high crime now--I remember a police helicopter landing on the schoolyard across from my house, gunshots every night, etc.).
