Net tools and civic engagement
Streetsblog has a very nice entry, "Pin it on Shelly!," where they produce a counter-narrative to that produced by State Assemblyman Sheldon Silver, who was key in preventing NYC in experimenting with the implementation of congestion pricing in Manhattan. (Silver is the Speaker of the Assembly, the top dog.)
Silver's election site has a Google Map with pins showing the largesse that he has brought to his district. Streetsblog has produced a different Google Map, showing the negative impact on his constituents of blocked urban design and placemaking initiatives due to his politicking and palavering.
Labels: cartography, civic engagement, electoral politics and influence, protest
