Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Parking sign, Carroll Creek Deck, Frederick, Maryland

In the past, Greater Greater Washington has commented about parking wayfinding signage in the Columbia Heights area among others.

The problem is that DC's "P" parking signs don't include more specific information about where they are directing you to. Downtown Frederick (and Bethesda has comparable signage) doesn't seem to have the same reticence about telling you where they are directing you to.

DC's bicycle route signage, unlike the parking signs, is willing to tell you where you are going...
