Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Eating my words (hopefully) on the Obama Adminstration's urban policy

In earlier blog entries, I was skeptical about the Obama Adminstration's urban agenda. While they haven't taken up my idea of renaming HUD the Department of Cities, Metropolitan Regions, and Sustainability, they are having the various agencies, in particular HUD and the Department of Transportation talk to each other. And a lot more is going to too.

See "Obama the Urbanist" from the April issue of Governing Magazine.
