Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Obstruction of the sidewalk right of way, Two Rivers Charter School, 1200 block of 4th Street NE, west side

I don't see how it was approved for the expansion of the Two Rivers Charter School and their obstruction of the straight path of the sidewalk on the block. They didn't even out the height of the sidewalk in front of their building with the sidewalk on either side of their property.

They don't do this kind of anti-pedestrian treatment at their original building across the street.

Sure, it's seemingly pretty, but is an anti-pedestrian distraction.
