Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Park Pride 2011 conference presentations now online

Park Pride is the parks advocacy group for Atlanta. Each year they sponsor a dynamite conference, featuring presentations by leading researchers and practitioners. This year the conference was in late March. Now, most of the presentations are online.

Presentations include A Future City Parks System by David Barth, Carlos Perez & Denise Starling; two presentations on community partnerships; three presentations on using greenspace to revitalize distressed neighborhoods, Pathways to Play on trail planning; Urban Park Systems Promoting Health, by Peter Harnik of Trust for Public Land; and more.
