Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Amtrak documentary tonight

Celebrating 40 Years of Amtrak!
If you have access to RFD-TV (I don't), the National Association of Railroad Passengers wants us to know that tonight RFD-TV will be showing a documentary that takes an inside look into the creation of Amtrak, and the railroad's history.

Amtrak: The First 40 Years was produced in honor of the railroad reaching its fourth decade. It provides an exclusive look inside America's Railroad with hard to find photographs and video footage, as well as interviews with past and present leaders who have shaped the railroad's history.

The documentary is available for purchase from Amtrak, but this airing by RFD-TV provides a free showing.
