Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Blogging

I am incredibly swamped with responding to proposals to certain bicycle facilities projects for the next month or so (one proposal in and presentation later this month, one proposal due in two weeks--the day after the other presentation with its own presentation next month, another proposal due in just under one month, the day the second presentation is scheduled for, etc.) so my blogging is going to drop precipitously.

So that means read:

and the aggregators of interesting articles:

- Reconnecting America's Other Side of the Tracks.

In the DC region,

- Washcycle for bicycling

Of course, there is plenty of other great work out there and it's impossible to keep up...
