Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Car2Go sightings

Car2Go on 3rd Street SE, Capitol Hill
I've started spying Car2Go car sharing vehicles on city streets. This was on 3rd Street SE, but I've seen them on Rock Creek Church Road by Riggs Road in NE DC and on 3rd Street NW in Takoma.

My concern about their business model is that the vehicles will get dispersed in out-of-the-way locations, reducing utilization. We'll see.
Car2Go on the 6600 block of 3rd Street NW
This car has sat today on the 6500 block of 3rd Street NW from at least 7:15 am to after 4pm. On the other hand, because data about car sharing utilization isn't publicly available, unlike data from Capital Bikeshare, we aren't able to make very good generalizations about "why". (And "traditional" car sharing vehicles requiring reservations and return to the same place often sit for long periods of time as well.)
