Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Miami Transformed: Rebuilding America One Neighborhood, One City at a Time: Talk, Nat. Building Museum, Monday 1/14/2013

Former Mayor of Miami (from 2001 to 2009) Manuel Diaz has authored a book, Miami Transformed: Rebuilding America One Neighborhood, One City at a Time, published by the University of Pennsylvania Press, on the story of his revitalization efforts in Miami (helped along of course by Miami's role as a kind of North American capital of South America).

He will be speaking and doing a book signing at the National Building Museum on Monday January 14th, 12:30 to 1:30 PM.  (Registration required.)

-- Speech by Mayor Diaz, "The Miami Renaissance: A Road Map for Urban Leadership," Manhattan Institute, 2004
