"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." Capitol Hill Restoration Society, (Old) House Expo, Sunday October 16th

(I heard about this via a side conversation at a meeting last night. It's something I've recommended preservation groups do for years and years. The Historic Chicago Bungalow Association has similar kinds of events, but I've never been fortunate enough to attend.  There are also for-profit )
