Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

ISA is a great resource. Yes they represent their industry, but they are pretty open about it and recognize the roles and challenges of planners. Anyone in the drudgery of local planning who has to deal with signs and codes should definitely learn what they can help with. Even if you don't deal with sign regulations, they have free opportunities for AICP credits, and they're a good way to get up to speed on changing tech, case studies, legal issues, 1st amendment, yadda yadda. Recommend.

Thanks for that endorsement. I added ISA to the links in the right sidebar.
