Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

I hadn't thought of this additional benefit of the maps posted at bike sharing stations in DC, but it is one.

The maps at the bike sharing stations in London look to be incredible, from what little I've seen of them from photos posted on the web. (Someone needs to shoot photos of each of the four sides of the kiosk and post them...)

The Legible London wayfinding system appears to be pretty fantastic according to some of the amazing photos I've seen of aspects of the signage program, and the map portions of the "Barclays Cycle Hire" kiosks are integrated into the Legible London program.
