Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

WMATA has a town meeting tonight in College Park. I can't go but maybe you can.

Open House 6-7 pm
Town Hall Meeting, 7-9 pm

FDA Auditorium across from the College Park Metro Station
5100 Paint Branch Parkway

__________
Before going, read this piece in today's Examiner, "Sprawl & Crawl - Metro battles - Steve Eldridge" which shows how current administation ideology on the part of the State of Maryland might be hurting maintenance and improvement of the WMATA system or any of the ongoing coverage about the WMATA system that has run in the Post, such as this series, "Off the Rails" from June, and the transportation component of the Sierra Club Metro DC's Challenge to Sprawl campaign.

Purple Line Metro Map The Purple Line proposed by area transit advocates. This project has died, at least in the short run, in the face of Gov. Ehrlich's strong support for the new freeway, the Inter-County Connector, to link I-270 to I-95.
