Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Flexcar promotion. Portland's Pearl District

These orange poles promote non-personal automobile transit modes. They were always present at one of the on-street Flexcar spaces. This location in the Pearl District included a brochure holder promoting Flexcar.

I just noticed in rereading an article in the Philly Business Journal about a development in East Falls, that the condo development proposed included a carshare on the premises, and every resident unit is automatically enrolled in the program.
