Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

It's not FLICKR but...

I don't exactly get www.ning.com, the "online social development applications builder" but I suppose it bears further watching and consideration. In the theme of "if you build it they will come" it's important to remember that critical mass is key for group-oriented computing applications to have utility.

This email from comm-org is where I first learned about this, and has more information.
