Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Playing around with Google Maps

Community Walk Map - Housing Development along the east side of the Union Station Railyard

Community Walk is a new website that makes it possible for people to create Google Maps without knowing how to program, using the Google API, etc. I was playing around and created a map-- Community Walk Map - Housing Development along the east side of the Union Station Railyard.

It maps residential development, under construction and proposed, along the east side of the Union Station railyard, from G Street to M Street.

Purple markers = mixed use projects that are predominately residential with some retail and no office
Brown markers = residential only
Pinkish markers = public transportation
