Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Junk Food architecture in North Carolina

The Lincoln Log.jpgJunk Food architecture.

A blog that links to mine is called The Lincoln Log (Life_Culture_Design_Growth) from Lincolnton, North Carolina. The writer appears to be fighting the good fight about urban design and preservation, even to the extant of renovating an old commercial building for new uses. Needless to say, he doesn't seem to be pleased with the development of the new City Hall, likening it to junk food architecture (See "A Word On Authenticity.")

I like his work with the photo.

And the universaility of junk-food architecture is something that we both fight...
