Columbia Heights clean up this weekend
I don't understand why people think tossing something in the street gutter is acceptable behavior...
Speaking of getting off your butt and doing something, Marcus Popetz writes (slightly edited):
Hi everyone
As mentioned in the past couple of weeks, we have organized a Columbia Heights cleanup day for this upcoming Saturday.
Details: We'll meet at 10am at whichever of these three corners are of most interest to you:
-- 11th and Harvard - Led by Alan and John (and me if my wife hasn't given birth by then). Flyer: 4/1; full-page.
-- 11th and Monroe - Led by Larry. Flyer: 4/1; full-page.
-- 14th and Girard - Led by Brandon and Gus. Flyer: 4/1; full-page.
Jason Berry did a great job making a full page flyer for the cleanup. I've posted it as well in case you want to tape some to telephone poles and such. The other flyer is set up with four to a page, in English and Spanish, that you can print off and distribute. I also made a leaflet to stick on people's doors outside of the really dirty sections so maybe they'll come out and help next time.
We will have tools and bags, but more bags are always welcome. BRING WORK GLOVES!
We'll pick up trash from 10am until about 11:30, drop the bags of trash and tools off where we started and the DC Department of Public Works will come and pick them up.
To help:
- Print a few of the appropriate flyer and spread them around the neighborhood on Wednesday or Thursday.
- Print a few of the "afterwards" flyers and bring them and some tape with you to post around as we clean.
- Most importantly, come out and help pick up trash on Saturday.
Thanks.
