Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Here's an idea for DC and other communities that have a plethora of farmers markets across their city or region...

From the article in the Fargo (North Dakota) Forum:

The annual meeting of the North Dakota Farmers’ Market and Growers Association will be held Wednesday and Thursday at the Best Western Kelly Inn, 3800 Main Ave., Fargo. Nationally recognized expert and author Vance Corum will be the keynote speaker. Corum will discuss the keys to farmers market success. He also will be making four other presentations covering topics such as display ideas, marketing techniques, pricing and a session on customer research.

Ron Smith, North Dakota State University Extension Service horticulturist, will address the challenges and techniques of growing produce organically, one of the fastest growing segments of American agriculture. Smith also will conduct a session on what vegetables to consider growing in North Dakota. Donna Thronson, North Dakota Department of Agriculture marketing specialist; Jerry Thompson, NDDA pesticide enforcement coordinator; and Paul Deutsch, NDFMGA chair, also will have presentations for a broad audience, such as farmers, vendors, craft people, and market organizers and managers.
