Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Upper Trinidad

Upper Trinidad

I have a lot of learning to do wrt photography, but this is a shot I've wanted to take for a couple weeks. I was finally over there on my bike... It's taken from Mt. Olivet Road, towards Brentwood, above Corcoran Street. Note to the people who think that the Trinidad neighborhood was named after Trinidadians...

Corcoran Street (you can see the sign at the bottom of the photo--click through for a much larger version)is named after W.W. Corcoran (of Riggs Bank...), who owned the land and named it. The land was donated to what became GWU upon Corcoran's death (which shows how long GWU has been in the real estate business).
