Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

I think I am okay with this. I know that Scenic America would think of this as visual pollution. But doing some research on movie theater history and skimming this book in particular, Signs and Wonders: The Spectacular Marketing of America by Tama Starr, has made me reconsider this. Plus, 7th Street NW was a big commercial district, I think with some theaters(?) so this is a 21st century interpretation of DC's history...
