Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Blue Castle Rumors - Not True?

JD Land, the blog on "near" Southeast development issues, reports:

In this week's The Hill, Duncan Spencer reports (scroll down a bit) that it's "confirmed" that a Whole Foods grocery store is coming to the Blue Castle at 8th and M. There's no mention of it on the web site of the castle's owners (Preferred Real Estate Investments, Inc. ), but we all know that SOME web sites are better at updating with new information than OTHERS!

Back when the sale was announced, the owners said they'd be trying to get Whole Foods and a national bookstore chain. Am trying to track down some confirmation....

UPDATE: Whole Foods is *not* coming to the Blue Castle, PREI tells me.

Hmm, maybe this started out of something similar to Douglas Development Corporation including the words "Harris-Teeter" in a rendering for a reuse of the Uline Arena?

Uline Arena, Redevelopment Concept, Harris-Teeter
