Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

THURSDAY, May 25, 2006, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

at the Citywide Conference Center
One Judiciary Square, 441 4th Street, NW, Suite 1107 South

The session will provide an overview of major sources of data and research about the District of Columbia, its neighborhoods and its residents. These data have many uses, including making your case in proposals, setting priorities for your resources, planning outreach activities and designing specific initiatives and programs. Examples will be provided of how data and research can be applied in these ways. Participants will practice these methods in group activity. After this training session, participants will be able to identify where to get data they need for their work, and how it can be used to further their mission.
