Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Speaking of the streetcar

Go by StreetcarMARK HARRISON / THE SEATTLE TIMES. On a building in the Pearl District is a spoof of the old "Go By Train" neon sign atop nearby Union Station.

Probably not going to be able to blog much today, but while looking around for Portland Streetcar stuff for the previous entry, I found this very nice article from the Seattle Times, "A streetcar to inspire, in Portland." (It also happens that last week I established contact with the ED of the Portland Streetcar system and that should prove to be pretty fruitful.
