Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Quick update

Still catching up so am behind on "blog production," although the Post doesn't seem to have had that many interesting articles over the last week.

Coming up later today --

-- Our friends the Lerners: Constructing Buildings vs. Creating Places
-- My thoughts on the Comprehensive Plan revision (in short -- it's pretty good, at least for the 5.5 sections I've gotten through so far, but still needs a lot of work, a lot of revision, to be a document that truly sets forth DC on the right course for sustainable land use and resource planning, and that the City will do us all a tremendous disservice by speeding this through approvals with the document as is).

Today there are also Comp Plan hearings. I didn't sign up to testify (I am just so far behind in stuff), but will try to attend the evening session.

Thanks Wonkette for the link, which drove weekend (and overall) blog visits to new heights. Hopefully, people introduced to the blog through that link will check back for other nuggets.
