Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

The electoral process is still ugly or Renee Bowser is not Muriel Bowser

Renee BowserRenee Bowser.

Renee Bowser is politically progressive and the chair of ANC4D in Ward 4, the Ward that Adrian Fenty currently represents on City Council. Renee is a member of the DC Statehood-Green Party and the National Green Party.
Quotes from Black Commentator
She is looking to run in the special election that will come up to fill the seat of Councilmember Fenty as he moves up to Mayor, presuming that he wins the general election in November (which we all pretty much presume).

I think this is a great opportunity to add progressive political representation to the DC City Council without it necessarily being a "Democrat". (It was in a special election that then Republican David Catania was able to best Arrington Dixon, the Democratic candidate, who thought he was a shoo-in.)
Quotes from Black Commentator
Today's Post, in "Hopefuls Begin Staking Out Fenty's and Gray's Seats," says that CM Fenty is interested in pushing the candidacy of a woman who worked on his campaign, Muriel Bowser, an ANC Commissioner in ANC4B. Michael Brown, unsuccessful candidate for Mayor appears to be throwing his hat into the ring as well.

Muriel and Renee are different people.

Pretty interesting and it makes you wonder...
