Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Cognac tasting tomorrow

I think that the way Modern Liquors on 9th Street NW is repositioning what they do is impressive. Every month on the second Wednesday they have a wine/liquor tasting, often featuring cheeses as well. And as I heard a patron say during the tasting I attended last year--"It's nice to have more places in the neighborhood that we can walk to..."

Here's the latest email from Jeff Harrison, the proprietor:

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that our cognac tasting is tomorrow, the 18th (6-8pm), and we'll be sampling Chateau de Plasson, VS and VSOP; and a red wine called Vino di Ripasso by Zardini. The samplings are courtesy of Monsieur Touton Selections.

For first timers, Modern Liquors is located across from the Convention Center at 9th & M. Via public transit, we're the Mount Vernon/Convention Center stop on Metro's Green/Yellow line; and the Convention Center stop via The Circulator. Phone: 202-289-1414

Cheers!
