Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Florida Market Tour this Saturday, October 14th

In advance of the hearing on Friday October 20th, on a bill to create a special public-private corporation benefiting a select group of investors at the expense of many others on the Florida Market, Elise Bernard of Frozen Tropics blog and I will be leading another tour of the market.

From the DC City Council Calendar:

"New Town at Capital City Market Revitalization Development and Public/Private Partnership Act of 2006," Bill 16-868. A new stop on this tour will be a trip to a noodle factory that sells retail.

We will start at 9 a.m., at the corner of 4th and Morse Streets NE. We will then go eat at K-Young's, a Korean-Salvadorean-American food establishment. At 9:45 a.m. we will start the tour from K-Youngs (so people not so eager for Korean food can come by then) and we'll spend til about 11:15 a.m. running around showing you places that sell retail.
