Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Even more on disingenuousness

Building on the 1300 block of M Street NW
I wrote a couple times about 1500 Massachusetts Ave. NW, and the owner's statement that designating the building means that it will cease to be affordable. I countered with the fact that the area around the building is upscaling rapidly. One of the buildings I mentioned, but not by name, was the "Jefferson at Thomas Circle."

This building was featured in the Post on Saturday in the Apartment Living section. The cost for apartments ranges from $1,795 to $4,205/month. See "A Peaceful Corner In Midst of Downtown."

Hmm, affordable housing...

Speaking of "inclusionary zoning," I think the concept should be extended to newly constructed apartments.
