Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Maybe I don't "hate" cars, but parking tickets...

(I don't really hate cars, I just take a hardcore position because (1) so many people favor cars and few advocate for the alternatives, or at least some sense of balance, and (2) because the ease of use is seductive.)

Yesterday's Chicago Sun-Times has an article, "The party's over, Jerry. You owe $29,627!," on the top 20 parking ticket scofflaws, who owe collectively $713,011.

Generally, you don't get tickets when parking a bike or taking transit.
