Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Quote of the day

From Andres Duany, via an e-list;

I also spent the week in New York and I agree with you. Unintentional beauty was everywhere. The only ugly things were the intentional designs of certain architects.

I have noticed that dense urbanism is quite forgiving. When there is much to look at, no individual problem matters much. However, dont try this when there is not enough around to dilute the problem.This kind of attitude is workable for T5 and above.

T5 refers to transect zones.
