Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

4 out of 5...

Home Depot lists five key priorities post-Nardelli; four should be priorities for any retail business:

1. Associate engagement (training employees, engaging them so that they provide quality service);
2. Product excitement;
3. Product availability (how many places can you name that never seem to have in stock what you want to buy);
4. Shopping environment (high quality place to shop).
