Black Music Month

Motown Fan Club promotion
From Detroit Blog.. Memorabilia left behind in a Motown building in Detroit abandoned for 30 years. The building was torn down in advance of the Superbowl.

When Motown decided to leave Detroit, they up and left, abandoning their building, leaving items ranging from Marvin Gaye's desk to old advertising files. People went spelunking into the building over the years to extract artifacts. The building was torn down in advance of the Super Bowl. Many people protested. The Mayor of Detroit said well, they could build a museum to Motown some time down the road... of course, why not just use the extant building and artifacts?

AP has done a story on the Stax Museum in Memphis. See "Gritty Stax Records spins a comeback ."
