Urban Planning Expert to Highlight How to Revitalize Mature Communities with Montgomery Planning Board -- this Thursday
From Valerie Berton, Media Relations Manager, Montgomery County Planning Board, via Ken Firestone:
At a 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14 presentation to the Montgomery County Planning Board, a national planning expert will describe how he has helped communities successfully redevelop their older downtowns and regional retail centers.
The presentation by Michael Freedman, principal and founder of a San Francisco city design and town planning firm, will help inform the Planning Board as it grapples with how to shape the future growth of the county, much of which is comprised of older, established communities.
Freedman, the latest expert in the Board's Growth Management Speaker Series, and his firm have worked with communities such as Phoenix, Reno and cities throughout California and the Pacific Northwest to establish strategies to both boost the local economy and create pleasing, well-designed communities.
With a focus on urban design, Freedman has specialized in infill development - or growth within mature communities - and redevelopment of unattractive, auto-oriented, highly traveled roads. His topic on Thursday will be: "A Strategy of Superior Infill: Guiding Growth and Change with Effective Regulatory and Capital Improvement Tools."
WHEN: Thursday, June 14, 2007 - 7 p.m.
WHERE: Park and Planning Headquarters, 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD
